How we built RefurbishedDeals: sellers publish their own stock, and checkout ships per seller.
RefurbishedDeals is a marketplace for refurbished and second-hand products. Professional sellers publish their listings. At checkout, shipping can differ per seller.
Problem
Refurbished is not a normal shop with one warehouse. Several sellers have their own stock, their own photos and their own shipping method. One basket that pretends everything comes from the same shelf breaks at payment. And a listing without a complete photo or description is a return you can already see coming.
Approach
Sellers register, publish products and stay responsible for that information. Checkout groups by seller and lets the buyer pick a shipping method per seller. If a rate is missing, that seller cannot be part of the order.
